Our Sunday worship is a hybrid format: both in person in the sanctuary and via Zoom* meeting software.  (See below for more details about how to attend on line and in person services).

Upcoming Speakers and Topics

May 3: Mark Bernstein. On Faith and Honest Doubt. To have faith is also to have doubts. They aren’t opposites. They are, it turns out, according to author and pastor Rob Bell, “excellent dance partners.” See you on the dance floor.  Children in the sanctuary for the first part of the service.

May 10: JD Stillwater. Seasons of Love: Astronomy, Change, and You. We earthlings are caught up in an intimate and ancient dance with the sun, a dance that shaped our cultures, our religions, and our selves. As we celebrate Mothers Day, science ambassador JD Stillwater explores the intimacy between astronomy, culture, and spirituality, and our annual path through the wheel of the year.

May 17: Rev. Dr. Paul Britner. Our UU Mothers: Rev. Olympia Brown. An early Universalist “mother of our church”, Brown was the first woman ordained at the denomination level in the United States.

May 24: Rev. Dr. Elaine Strawn. Wise Choices. What kind of world will you create, will we create? Together, as we calm our fears, we recognize the deep Wisdom within. Together we develop our awareness and flexibility. And together we become a force for transformation.

May 31: Rev. Summer Allayati. When the Storm Comes We All Move Together. There is so much change happening right now that it may feel as if the whole world is in a storm. How do we find the way to move with and through the storm? Not running for cover, but finding who we must become to ride it out and emerge triumphant. When the storm settles, as it must, how do we help to keep the house from blowing away?

June 7: Rev. Dr. Paul Britner. Love is Patient. The apostle Paul writes in Corinthians that love is patient. In real life, relationships test our patience in many ways. Sometimes that means tolerating annoying behaviors, and other times that means setting boundaries around deeply flawed behaviors and attitudes. This message is about how we tell the difference and what we can do about it.     Children in the sanctuary for the first part of the service.

June 14: Rev. Beth Marshall. A Mission of Courage. This morning’s service explores Unitarian Universalism’s often complex relationship with the military. If you or your family have a military connection, you are encouraged to bring with you or wear something indicative of that commitment.

June 21: Rabbi/Cantor Mark Perman. Shabbat (the Sabbath). Jews celebrate Shabbat as a period of “sacred time” from Friday night until Saturday night, during which they put aside the mundane parts of the week that was and focus on their blessings as well as making time holy. There are lessons from Shabbat observance that can be applied to any faith.

June 28: Rev. Dr. Alexa Fraser. Learning to Be Brave. The Rt. Rev. Bishop Mariann Budde, leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, has focused her ministry on social justice, especially for marginalized communities. What can her words and actions teach us about the courage to respond, even in difficult times.

Covid Safety Precautions: We continue to focus on being together in person again but Covid precautions change. Be alert for on-going adjustments.
  • People are asked to mask while singing hymns.
  • Except while singing, masks are now optional for fully-vaccinated and boosted people. Some fully-vaccinated people continue to mask for additional safety; others do not.
  •  If you are NOT fully-vaccinated and boosted, we ask you to mask to protect yourself and others.
  • If  a family member or you are feeling ill (cold, flu, etc.) or have been exposed to Covid, please stay home and attend via Zoom.
  • Please be thoughtful with your greetings. Many people are not ready yet for hugging and other close contacts so always ask.
  • Improved Air Quality  The new HVAC system installed in 2020 in both the Martin House and sanctuary should keep us safer as well as warmer and cooler. The new system includes an air purification system in the HVAC ductwork. According to the EPA, the combined use of filtration and germicidal UVC light is an effective means of preventing the distribution of airborne viruses in occupied spaces. Our system has a high intensity dual-light system: one light controls bacteria, viruses, and mold spores; the other oxidizes and removes  noxious  odors.  The air goes through the purification system eight times an hour.
