The UUCH board of trustees approved a Service Animal Policy in July, 2026.
A copy of the policy is posted on the sanctuary foyer bulletin board and available as a PDF upon request to Deb Russell.
Key Points:
- Animals are not allowed into our services and events, with the exception of service animals. Service animals (most commonly dogs) are defined as those trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. The work performed must be directly related to the person’s disability. Emotional support animals do not quality as service animals under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).
- When a service dog and its owner are at church, ignore the service animal. Do not pet, feed, or make noises at a service animal because these may distract it from its job.
- Only certain questions are permissible under the ADA. The Service Animal Policy designates specific people who are authorized and prepared to ask about an animal at church.
