Our Sunday worship is a hybrid format: both in person in the sanctuary and via Zoom* meeting software.  (See below for more details about on-line & in-person services).

Upcoming Speakers and Topics

March 3: Irene Glass. Renewal and Returning Light. Throughout the year there are moments that support a change in direction: an opportunity to hit the reset button and try something new. As the winter-dreaming world begins to stir toward waking, explore ways to tap into the energy of spring for personal renewal, reconnection, and replenishment.   Children in the sanctuary for first part of the service.      Faith in Action (FIA) meeting at 12:15 p.m.

March 10: Jane Peatling and Marlin Barnes.  Musical Pieces from Marlin on the marimba and cellist Jane, who will also discuss elements of the music, giving hints on how to listen to music and how to perform it, as in the singing of hymns. The goal will be to enhance each congregant’s appreciation for music details.  Micah’s Back-Packing after the service.     Drum Circle  6 – 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

March 17: Rev. Wayne B. Arnason.  How Shall We Be Healed?  What is healing and are there different kinds of healing? Citing sources as different as Jesus, Albert Schweitzer, and Dr. Oliver Sacks, Rev. Arnason addresses these questions.   Offering in Action Collection.   Potluck Lunch after the meeting.  UUCH Book Table Open.

March 24: Rev. Christopher Buice.  Unitarian Universalists, Cats and Dogs. Some people identify as Unitarians, others as Universalists, while yet others as Unitarian Universalists. What are the differences and do they matter? Perhaps dogs and cats can tell us.                 Micah’s Back-Packing after the service.

March 31  (Easter): Rev. Dr. Paul Britner. Was Jesus a Pacifist? Though Jesus arguably chose to die on the cross rather than to lead an armed revolt against Rome, it did not take long for most Christians to become comfortable with war. Long before the Crusades, Augustine developed the so-called “just war theory”. This message considers what Jesus said and did to respond to justice and oppression and asks the further question, “What might this mean for us today?”

April 7: Rev. Scott W. Alexander. But Are You Happy? Happiness is a deep, persistent, and universal obsession for humanity.  Is happiness the only thing that matters?  From the very beginning Americans (in particular) have made happiness a central piece of their national quest. So what is happiness and how do we get it?  Children in the sanctuary for first part of the service.    FIA meeting at 12:15 p.m.

April 14: Irene Glass.  Community, Connection, and Conflict.  In times of deep division, the bonds we build between communities are absolutely vital. Likewise, the boundaries we build protect the most vulnerable among us. Delve into the paradox of tolerance, the difference between “nice” and “kind,” and the tools for moving into an election year with compassion, integrity, and robust boundaries.      Micah’s Back-Packing after the service.     Drum Circle  6 – 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

April 21: UUCH Players. The Blue-Green Hills of Earth. Our UU principles affirm the interconnectedness of all life. This intergeneratiional program celebrates our place on our earthly home and in the universe, with Carl Sagan, celestial photos, an animal alphabet, and more.  Bring a recycling offering—aluminum cans, plastic bottles, paper.     Intergenerational service: Children are in the sanctuary for the entire service. No childcare or RE class in the Martin House.   Potluck Lunch after the service.   Offering in Action.  UUCH Book Table Open.

April 28: Rev. Dr. Paul Britner.  The Sabbath World.  Based on the book of the same title by Judith Shulevitz, this topic, chosen by auction winner Donna Catling, explores the need and the barriers for a true day of rest in an age of 24/7 availability and connection.       Micah’s Back-Packing after the service.

Covid Safety Precautions: We continue to focus on being together in person again but Covid precautions change. Be alert for on-going adjustments.
  • Masks are now optional for fully-vaccinated and boosted people. Some fully-vaccinated people continue to mask for additional safety; others do not.
  •  If you are NOT fully-vaccinated and boosted, we ask you to mask to protect yourself and others.
  • People are asked to mask while singing hymns.
  • If  a family member or you  are feeling ill (cold, flu, etc.) or have been exposed to Covid, please stay home and attend via Zoom.
  • Please be thoughtful with your greetings. Many people are not ready yet for hugging and other close contacts so always ask.
  • Improved Air Quality  The new HVAC system installed in 2020 in both the Martin House and sanctuary should keep us safer as well as warmer and cooler. The new system includes an air purification system in the HVAC ductwork. According to the EPA, the combined use of filtration and germicidal UVC light is an effective means of preventing the distribution of airborne viruses in occupied spaces. Our system has a high intensity dual-light system: one light controls bacteria, viruses, and mold spores; the other oxidizes and removes  noxious  odors.  The air goes through the purification system eight times an hour.
